Junaidi, Nizam ul-Mulk

Junaidi, Nizam ul-Mulk
(?-1236)
He rose to the position of Iltutmish's wazir from a humble beginning. He participated in Iltut-mish's campaign against Qubacha (1227) and joined the nobles' move to oust Rukn al-Din Firuz Shah (1236), leading to enthrone-ment of Raziya Sultan (1236-1240). Janaidi was one of the Tajik nobles killed by the Turkish slaves during the aforementioned episode. Nizam ul-Mulk Junaidi is remembered as a patron of litera-ture. Nur al-Din Muhammad Aufi dedicated his famous collection of stories, Jawami' ul-hikayat (Encyclopedic Stories) to him.
